Marcie Povitsky

Hello.  My name is Marcie Povitsky.  I am currently work for Towson University as the Site Coordinator for the Towson College of Education at the Universities at Shady Grove, in Rockville, Maryland.  I received my B.S. in Elementary Education/Special Education from Towson University in 2004 and my Master's in Technology for Educators from Johns Hopkins University is 2007.

As a child, I was diagnosed with a learning disability.  At the age of 19, I was also diagnosed with dystonia, a neuromuscular movement disorder that makes my muscles spasm and contract uncontrollably.  I have been a part of the Educators with Disabilities Caucus for several years.  I am charged with maintaining the website and the newsletter.  During the 2010 CEC Convention, I happily accepted the role of co-president, with Rich Evans.  As part of my duties within the EDC, I am always striving to find better ways to get information out to our members.  If you have any ideas, please let me know.

In addition to my work with the EDC, I also serve as a Commissioner (Person with a Disability) on the Montgomery County Commission on People with Disabilities.  I am also active with the Towson-USG Student CEC, the Maryland CEC and with the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching TV, social networking and learning new things.
